Sup Hameed is renowned for its soups, not just for the wide variety that it offers, but also for the uniqueness of their tastes.

Judging on a superficial level will probably do their soups injustice because they aren’t starchy or thick, and look, in fact, like any other soup would; but what distinguishes their soups is their characteristic taste.

Most will have their soup served with bread, the roti benggali, which is handmade.

If you’re feeling adventurous, they have the sup torpedo, which is the bull’s penis soup. They also serve the usual mamak fare, such as nasi kandar, nasi lemak and roti canai.

Nasi Kandar originated from Penang, and Nasi Kandar Line Clear is one of the oldest nasi kandar eateries left standing, so a food trip to Penang wouldn’t be complete without a visit here. It is hidden inconspicuously along Penang Road, with a small entrance to an alley where the wooden chairs and tables are laid out; but don’t worry about not noticing it because come lunchtime, Line Clear will be buzzing with activity. Their nasi kandar is a plate of rice with a side of chicken, normally, (or any sides of your choice, actually), flooded with curry.

Located in the heart of Penang, May Garden Palace Restaurant has been a hit with both locals and tourists as the food there has always been good and will not disappoint. Some of the favourites are the new Wonder Pot, Black Chicken Soup, Suckling Pig, Steam Fish and the multi-coloured Agar Agar.

The Wonder Pot never cease to amaze customers as the ingredients are plenty and of high quality. There were big prawns, mushrooms, scallops, sea cucumber, abalone, duck and other stuff. Just this one dish was more than sufficient for a small group of around 4 people. The Monk Jump Over The Wall has the best quality amongst the other famous restaurants by far and the pricing in the May Garden Palace Restaurant is unbeatable.

This already much sought after hawker food haven was officially opened by Penang Tourism & Environment Exco YB Teng Chang Yeow in January 2007. Red Garden Food Paradise is conveniently located at Penang Upper Road near most of the town hotels and thus easily accessible by both locals and tourists.

The Khoo Kongsi is a large Chinese clanhouse with elaborate and highly ornamented architecture, a mark of the dominant presence of the Chinese in Penang, Malaysia. The famous Khoo Kongsi is the grandest clan temple in the country. It is also one of the city’s major historic attraction. The clan temple has retained its authentic historic setting, which includes an association building, a traditional theatre and the late 19th century rowhouses for clan members, all clustered around a granite-paved square.

It is located in Cannon Square in the heart of the oldest part of the city of George Town, in the midst of narrow, winding lanes and quaint-looking pre-War houses exuding a palpable old world charm.
